Hi, I’m Eddie James

I’m a passionate – often opinionated – user experience designer, information architect and digital culture junkie with over 16 years experience with online products, including product strategy, marketing, design, usability, production and management.

I started my career in public relations working for clients in the federal government, tagging press releases for posting on various electronic bulletin boards. Since then I’ve worked for small startups in New York City like kozmo.com (a dotcom boom poster child that was a great concept but ultimately went bust). I’ve also worked for colleges (University of Baltimore, Maryland Institute College of Art) and huge companies like Vanguard and Comcast.

I’ve worked on large consumer sites like Comcast.net (25 million people visit Comcast.net each month!) and the 401k site for Vanguard (Billions and billions of dollars are in company 401ks and Vanguard.com was how most users managed their savings). Lately, I’ve spent most of my time working on the design of a complex ordering of cable services application, a more helpful, customer-centered help site, and adding mobile phone functionality to customers’ account management tools.

I also am a budding entrepreneur. I freelance here and there helping small business make sense of social media and offering expert reviews of their user interfaces.

I have an M.A. in Interaction Design from the University of Baltimore. My undergraduate degree is in Communications (minor Music/Theatre) from Emory & Henry College.

I’ve lived in Washington, DC, Philadelpia, and New York City. Now, I live on an 80 acre farm in the snowy town of Lorraine, NY.

When I’m not making corporate websites make money and delight their customers. I spend my time feeding animals and digging in the garden. I also love pop culture and try to keep up with the cool kids since as you can tell, I’m hip.
